A Little Experiment

I've recently picked up a high-end printer (Epson R1900) that can print on large sheets of watercolor paper. I'm thinking of using it as a way to work directly from my sketches. So for this experiment, I sketched this girl in my sketchbook...

Then I enlarged it, printed it onto watercolor paper and painted it. (click on the picture to see it larger).

It has possibilities. More tests are needed.

That's lovely! Such rich color.

Btw, I love THE STORM IN THE BARN. Do you have another graphic novel in the works?

Thanks, Jeanie! I do indeed have another GN in the works. The writing is nearly finished and the drawing is set for next year. Hopefully it will be out in 2011.

Very nice, Matt! I have actually been playing around with the same sorts of things lately (my old process is WAY too long!). I'm a little nervous about putting real w.c. paper through my printer though...what weight paper have you tried?
Happy experimenting over there!!

Wow, that worked out really well!! Hmmm, what paper are you running through? 140 lb? I'm impressed.

It is 140 lb wc paper (for this, I'm pretty sure it was just Canson wc paper from a pad). I've also run 140 lb fabriano hp and it turned out fine. It does seem to take a few attempts before you can get the paper feed to take it, though. I'm still on the fence about using it.
